The History School Workshops Team

The History School Workshops team is made up of a number of different Historical Interpreters from various backgrounds. They each have their own specialist knowledge base and interests in different topics.

Tom Armstrong-Frost

Tom has always been interested in history and spent most of his formative years visiting castles, abbeys and other historic sites. He first started in historical shows through being a keen archer and then went on to squire for Medieval and Tudor Jousts. Since then he has learnt to ride and now performs in shows up and down the country both on foot and on horseback. As well as live shows and performances, Tom is now taking history into schools in the form of interactive learning workshops as one of his many interests include making history accessible and fun for children. His favourite period has always been Medieval but he has since come to appreciate other periods, especially Victorian, not least because they have pockets!

Ed Fox

Ed is an academic social historian with an MA and PhD in history. He has published numerous books and has a long background in museums, interpretation, and teaching. He is especially keen to promote the importance of local history in schools as a way of encouraging learners to engage with the past all around them. His 'Learning Outside the Classroom' education programs have won nationally recognised awards and he is a regular advisor to film and television. Although his historical interests are wide-ranging he has a particular fondness for the Bronze Age and the Tudor periods, and he is widely recognised as one of the world's leading experts on piracy in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
